Sony Blu Ray Surround Sound
Blu-Ray sound very quiet?
I have a Sony Blu-Ray player hooked up to my Sharp LCD TV via HDMI cable. Any time I play a normal movie the sound works perfectly. But when I go and use a Blu-Ray disc the sound is extremely low and when I turn up the volume the sound level doesn’t change. I have no surround sound or anything. The only cord going to the TV from the Blu-Ray player is one HDMI cord. What is wrong with the player because I paid a lot of money for it and it doesn’t even work right.
You should go into the Blu-ray player’s settings menu, and see what the audio output is set to. It could be sending 5.1 surround to the TV when playing Blu-ray discs, and if the TV can’t downmix that to 2.0 stereo then it could be playing surround effects instead of dialogue, which comes from the center speaker when in a surround format.
See if you can set the Blu-ray player to downmix to stereo for Blu-ray discs.
