Hitachi 51″ CRT Projection HDTV?

Anyone have this tv Im getting it from circuit City as a replacement for a tv their having to replace. This is the only one I had to pick from. Im read a few reviews on it most were good.
Hitachi 51 F59A is the model
Actually you should consider yourself lucky because the f59 series are absoulutly fabulous sets with picture quality to rival anything on the market in the sub $4000 range…I’m serious!!!
I did a lot of research (nearly 6000 posts on various forums and web sites) before pulling the trigger on one of these and I’m happy to report that it was a great decision. You’ll find a wealth of info about these TVs on the AVS forum, the rear projection section active daily with tweeks and such. In fact I’ll hook you up your settings. These are not mine by creation but are instead ones gleaned during my research on the AVS Forum and put togeather by Lee Bailey, another f59 owner using light meters and calibtration disks to acheive an absoulutly astounding picture, settings considered to be the best by most who’ve used them. Hook up the component cables to input #3 and go to the menu. Ready?
Sharpness – 15%
Contrast – 25%
Brightness – 63%
Color – 45%
Tint – Three clicks left of center
Color Temp – Standard
All enhancments off (this includes audio enhancements) as they only add unnessesary ‘noise’ to the picture.
Now on to the service menu, accessed by putting the TV on with no outside input thus leaving a black screen. Press menu on the TV, the menu and 8 on the remote which will bring up the menu. Scroll down to the catagory labled TA1360 and enter, then change the following though be sure to write the original factory settings down for referance, better safe than sorry you know.

This should provide the best picture atttainable, though slight tweeks to any of the regular menu settings may be required to suit your room due to lighting as well as personal taste. Also, these sets require a ‘break in’ period of about 100 hours to allow the CRT projector guns as well as all other components to settle in so you’ll be pleasently suprised to see your picture get better with each passing day.
It’s after this 100 hours that you’ll want to do the 117 point convergence as outlined in the back of your owners manual as this will fine tune the system for optimal viewing. There are even more tricks to further enhance the picture, but these are only if you want to embarass all your friends who plunked down big bucks on Plasma, LCD or DLP sets. Trust me, after the 100 hours and tweeking this set will deliver a picture unattainable by any set made till you reach the $4000 mark. For that money you could put an f59 in every room in the house INCLUDING the bathroom!
You might want to check out the threads over on the AVS forum as these will give you insight into questions you’ve yet to even think of, just take a peek around the rear projection section and you’ll find a wealth of info, especially the 57F59A thread as the 51, 57 and 65’s all use the same system so settings are interchangable between them.
