What are the differences between these LCD TVs?

What are the differences between these LCD tvs (in layman’s terms please… I know NOTHING about LCD TVs!)?

“4″50 = 4 series
“5″50 = 5 series
“6″50 = 6 series

The 5 series adds 1080p and more contrast. The 6 series has 1080p but adds 120Hz refresh rate and even more contrast.

That’s really the differences between those TVs in a nutsheel. There might also be some differences in input ports and the amount of each, but that won’t really impact it visually.

At 32″, most consumer and guru HDTV guides will tell you that you just need a basic LCD. The reason being is that you’re not super likely to notice the advantages of higher end tech specs. They won’t hurt the image, they might actually help it, its just that it won’t help it to an extent of what you’ll be paying for the feature (poor bang for the buck).

So if you go by that logic, the best choice would be to take the first one, the Samsung Series 4. Its a very solid, well reviewed, TV set at 32″.

But, everyone is different. Some people are more sensitive to visual issues and some people are more sensitive to audio issues. Some are sensitive to both and some are sensitive to neither. Because of that, at some point, you need to abandon the tech sheets and reviews and check out the TVs for yourself.

Get into a store that has the various options. Have them play something demanding that you might like (perhaps The Dark Knight, Iron Man, sports, something with fast motion). Then watch that image across all those different TVs. And actually just use your gut feeling. What are your eyes attracted to the most? At the end of the day your eyes are going to be watching a TV day in and day out, not a spec sheet. So you need to bring you eyes to the table in your purchase decision.

I think the 4 series is all you need. But I’ve seen some people really want the high end features that the 6 series brings (usually gamers who want to try and maximize their PS3 to the best theoretical specs possible).
